SOCCER EARNS FIRST VICTORY WITH 3-0 SHUTOUT AT SUFFOLK
by Coach D.J. Bevivino

NEW YORK, NY (9-20-11) - The FIT women's soccer team did not wait long to notch the program's first ever victory, defeating Suffolk on the road 3-0 this past Sunday.  The win came after the Tigers dropped their first contest of the season at Monroe College 5-1 a day earlier.

FIT got their first goal in the 37th minute off the foot of Brittany Sheeran (Staten Island, NY/Tottenville), assisted nicely by Kristen Stepniewski ( Melville, NY/Walt Whitman).  That proved to be the only goal in the first half, and the Tigers enjoyed their first ever lead at the break.

In the 62nd minute, Kristen Nicewicz (Saquoit, NY/Saquoit) notched her first goal of the season, after getting the pass from Briana Marquit (Massapequa Park, NY/Massapequa).  Nicewicz took the pass and went 1-on-1 with the goalie, beating her into the corner of the net.  The two were not done for the game, as Nicewicz returned the favor and fed Marquit in the 80th minute for the 3rd goal of the game.

The FIT defense blanked Suffolk the rest of the way and earned their first ever shutout.  Mia Vuksanaj (Mahopac, NY/Mahopac) was in goal for FIT, stopping all 4 shots she saw.
