FIT Hosts Lecture by British Photographer Martin Parr

British photographer Martin Parr is internationally known for his innovative imagery, his oblique approach to social documentary, and his input to photographic culture within the UK and abroad.

Parr says of his work, “With photography, I like to create fiction out of reality. I try and do this by taking society’s natural prejudice and giving this a twist.”

In recent years, Parr has developed an interest in filmmaking, and has started to use his photography within different conventions, such as fashion and advertising.  In 2002 the Barbican Art Gallery and the National Media Museum in England initiated a retrospective of Martin Parr’s work, which toured Europe for five years.  He is a visiting professor at the University of Wales, Newport campus, and he is a full member of Magnum Photographic Corporation.
