Tomodachi-Uniqlo Fellowship Will Enable Japanese Students to Attend FIT

The Fashion Institute of Technology (FIT) is one of three colleges selected by the Tomodachi Initiative for the Tomodachi-Uniqlo Fellowship, a new scholarship program funded with $1.6 million by Uniqlo Co., Ltd. At least one Japanese student a year will receive funding for FITís Master of Professional Studies program in Global Fashion Management. Japanese students will also be funded to attend graduate programs at Parsons The New School for Design and Stanford Graduate School of Business.

The program is designed for students who plan to become business and fashion leaders. The first fellowship recipients will begin their studies in fall 2013. The Tomodachi-Uniqlo Fellowship includes an opportunity to participate in a summer internship at Uniqlo Co., Ltd. during the summer after the first academic year in the program.

FITís Global Fashion Management Program prepares apparel industry managers for executive positions in the international fashion industry. The programís focus on the fashion industry is unique among graduate business degrees in the United States.

Offered by FIT in collaboration with Hong Kong Polytechnic University in Hong Kong and Institut Français de la Mode in Paris, the program draws upon an international student body and faculty.

Highlights of the 18-month program are the intensive ten-day seminars held on each campus in consecutive semesters, through which students gain a comprehensive view of the interrelationships among the various segments of international fashion businesses across countries and cultures. The program focuses on leadership, cross-cultural understanding, and the global marketplace.††

Applicants to the Global Fashion Management program must have a minimum of three years of professional experience in the apparel or related industries, with a specialization in retail, fashion design, marketing, merchandising, import/export, fashion journalism, product development, operations, planning, or other relevant areas.††
