Workers' Compensation Benefit Program

Workplace health and safety are paramount concerns for the Fashion Institute of Technology.  Employees are encouraged to exercise care and good judgment at all times, and to report unsafe practices and conditions, or equipment so as to avoid job-related injuries and or illnesses.

If an employee sustains a job-related accident or injury, or suffers an occupational disease in the course of employment, he or she shall receive benefits in accordance with the New York Workers’ Compensation Act.

The New York Workers’ Compensation benefits provide protection for employees in the qualifying event of lost time or medical expenses due to work related accidents, injuries or illnesses.  Benefits continue until you are able to return to work.  Workers’ Compensation coverage:
  • Is purchased by FIT and benefits are paid by PMA Management Corp (PMA)
  • Is not the same as FIT regular health insurance coverage
  • Will take effect if you are injured in the course of performing your normal work duties for FIT

It is the college's policy to comply fully with all applicable laws and regulations that relate to the New York State Workers' Compensation Law.
