Tigers Earn Two Conference Wins

By Carrie Thomas

(New York, NY) The FIT Tigers traveled downtown to play two conference matches against Kingsborough CC and Queensborough CC and came away victorious.

In the first matchup of the day, the Tigers struggled a bit in the beginning but pulled out three straight set wins 25-19, 25-13, 25-22. "KCC was very tall in the middle but also very sloppy. Sometimes their play caught us off guard. I'm glad we saw that style of play because it just shows we have to stay on our toes at all times no matter whom we are playing," said Coach Carrie Thomas.

Anna Buckley spread the floor offensively with 34 set assists. Hitters Megan Houff, Rachel Carey and Vivian Htam finished the match with 9 kills each. Libero Alison Tyler defended the back court with 16 digs.

In the final match of the day the FIT Tigers contained a fired up Queensborough CC in three straight, as well, with scores of 25-15, 25-13, 25-20. QCC came out strong in the first set jumping on FIT 4-0 but the Tigers regrouped and never looked back. "We started out slow and QCC took advantage of that. We are definitely one of the teams to beat in the league so every point to them is an upset. We've had this happen a few times this year where we dig ourselves a hole and are able to recover and bounce back. I'm proud of how we are playing early in the season. We are spreading our offense and everyone is contributing. Defensively we get better ever match," claimed Thomas.

Megan Houff paced the offense with 16 kills. Anna Buckley had 29 set assists. Rachel Carey finished the match with 8 kills and Alison Tyler had 13 digs. The Tigers overall record is 8-1 and 2-0 in Region 15 play.
