(New Rochelle, NY) The FIT Tigers placed second in the Monroe College Invitational going 3-1 for the weekend. The Tigers played some tough Division II schools, being the only Division III school in the tournament. On the first day of volleyball action, the Tigers split their matches, winning the first match versus Nassau 3-0. In the afternoon match up they faced a tough offensive team from Monroe College losing 0-3. On the closing day, the Tigers put away Potomac State of West Virginia 3-0 and battled the College of Southern Maryland to five sets to pull out the 3-2 win.
“This was our third time facing Nassau this year and, to be honest, I figured that they would be out for a little revenge since we beat them twice already. Our girls came out fired up from the start and never let down. In our afternoon round we came across a tough Monroe team. Their offense was amazing and their serving game was just out of this world. We had a tough time controlling their aggressive serve so we took ourselves out of our own strong offensive play. I'm glad we saw the styles that we did, though. It just better prepares us for the rest of the season," Coach Carrie Thomas stated. “Our schedule was very tough at the beginning of the season. We played a lot of DII teams and were very successful. I am confident that this has prepared us for what's ahead. We only have conference matches left and I'm hoping that the girls will be able to go into each match very confident."
Megan Houff led the offensive attack pounding out 53 kills. Anna Buckley dished out 127 set assists and 14 kills. Rachel Carey added 25 kills at the net. Alison Tyler led the backcourt with 79 digs, while Michelle Vainblat played all the way around with 44 digs and 23 kills. Miranda Mitchell finished with 24 kills and 35 digs. Vivian Htam chipped in with 11 kills. Nathalie Albersmeyer and Daija Simpson finished with 1 kill each.
