Tigers Take Second at Mercer Tournament
By Hilary Baxter
(Princeton, New Jersey) Once again the Fit womenís tennis team started their season with quite the roar at the Mercer Tournament. The ladies took second place out of sixteen teams nearly starting the season with perfection.
Mercer is a great opportunity every fall for the team to see what theyíll be up against during the oncoming season. Itís when the team really comes together as a whole to support one another. Team Captain, Fernanda DeSouza commented.
Since starting league matches, the Tigers are undefeated. They've faced Nassau Community College, Brookdale, and Rockland Community College. This season they've come in with one clear goal in mind, and that is to become National Champions. Not too far off, as last year they placed 2nd at the NJCAA Nationals held at Billie Jean Tennis Center in New York.
In preparation for making the journey all the way to National Champions, the ladies practice Monday through Friday for 2 hours a day at Midtown Tennis. ďThe tennis team is my stress reliever. Itís nice to take two hours out of my fun filled day of work to play tennis. The girls are sweet and itís nice to get to bond with them while going to matches,Ē stated 2nd singles, Keerthana Sivaramakrishnan.
While the Tigers can only hope to envision themselves at number one this year, one thing is for certain. Their support for one another along with their motivation and passion for tennis is always on the court with them no matter what the outcome.
