FIT Cross Country NJCAA Half Marathon National ChampionshipsWritten By Maria Paolillo
(Dallas, GA) Three brave souls traveled to Dallas, Georgia over the weekend to compete in the NJCAA Half Marathon National Championships. The gun went off at 8 am on Saturday morning, and the Tigers were ready to be fierce. The National Championship course was along the Silver Comet Trail, which consisted of a paved path through the woods. The temperature on Saturday morning was around 50 degrees, slightly overcast, and had a slight mist in the air. Needless to say it was a perfect racing weather.
Linsey Schroth led the Lady Tigers with a time of 1 hour 40 minutes and 54 seconds. Shannon McIver was not far behind her with a time of 1 hour 41 minutes 38 seconds. Kelsey Waters toughed through the 13.1 miles and ran a time of 1 hour 50 minutes and 26 seconds.
This was the first half marathon that any of the girls had ever raced. They competed exceptionally well for their first time. The team came in 10th out of 14 teams, only 3 points out of 9th place. The Tigers were the only Division III team to participate. These three ladies really proved their toughness over the entire 13.1 mile race and fought all the way to the very end. Big Congratulations to the Lady Tigers Half Marathon Team!
