Policy Statement

The college recognizes the serious and substantial public health risk and productivity problems caused by smoking. In an effort to create a healthful, comfortable, and productive environment for all students, faculty, staff, and visitors, the college adopts this smoke-free policy. For this reason, smoking is not permitted, and no person shall smoke, in any indoor area, or anywhere on FIT grounds, including (but not limited to) the elevated walkway, the breezeway between the David Dubinsky Student Center and the Business and Liberal Arts Center, terraces, and any other FIT area under an overhang.  For purposes of this policy, smoking shall mean the burning of a lighted cigar, cigarette, pipe or other matter or substances which contain tobacco and shall also include the use of electronic cigarette (“e-cigarette”) devices.

Entities Affected by this Policy

  • This policy applies to all FIT students, faculty, staff, and visitors and to all college buildings and facilities, including residence halls, now in existence or that come into existence after the enactment of this policy.
