TransitChek Program
All employees are eligible to participate in the TransitChek program. The program allows employees to direct up to $240 per month on a pre-tax basis from payroll checks to be used for mass-transit transportation expenses. Depending on an employee’s commuting needs, an Unlimited MTA Metro-Card, TransitChek Vouchers, or a Visa Debit Card are available options.
The IRS allows you to elect up to $240 per month on a pre-tax basis to be used for park & ride commuter parking (this is in addition to the $240 allowed pre-tax for mass transit benefits). Park and ride benefits cover the cost of parking at a facility from which you commute to work by transit. For example, if you drive to a railroad station and pay to park at the station parking lot or at a privately owned parking lot adjacent to the railroad station, the monthly cost of parking can be covered by TransitChek. In this case, you can arrange to have up to $240 per month of your salary set aside before taxes to pay for this expense. If the parking lot/facility accepts Visa cards, you may use your Quick Pay Visa card to pay for your parking benefits as well as for your mass transit tickets. If the parking lot/facility does not accept Visa cards, you may mail paper receipts along with a claim form to TransitCenter for reimbursement from your Transit account. Note: Commuter Parking Benefits cannot be co-mingled with Mass Transit benefits; please be sure you are electing the proper amount for each type of benefit.
You may enroll by calling TransitCenter directly at 1-800-773-1327 or by enrolling over their secure website: www.tams.transitcenter.com. In order to complete your enrollment, you will need to provide FIT's company code which is EAW76, and also the FIT employee ID number you were issued (8 digits beginning with @).
Please note that when you input your ID number in the system, you must replace the "@" symbol with a capitalized letter A. There is a minimum waiting period of six weeks between the date of enrollment and when the first benefit is received.
