AP 241
Leather Apparel Design Room Techniques

2.5 credits; 1 Lecture and 3 Laboratory hours per week
Prerequisite: AP 141 or AP 143 or FD 131 or MW 141
Teaches construction, processing, finishing, and decorative techniques for making menís or womenís leather garments. Learn about the leather apparel industry, resources, and suppliers.

AP 253
Leather Apparel Design

2.5 credits; 1 Lecture and 3 Laboratory hours per week
Prerequisites: (AP 211 or FD 112) and (AP 221 or FD 221) and AP 241 or MW 232
Study the use of leather, suede, and other animal skins and apply these materials to the design principles exclusive to creating menís and womenís apparel. Develop original designs utilizing draping and flat-pattern industrial methods.

Leather Apparel Portfolio

2.5 credits; 1 Lecture and 3 STUDIO hours per week
Prerequisite: AR 114 or approval of Leather Apparel certificate program advisor
Use basic drawing and computer skills to communicate design concepts and develop a digital portfolio of men's or women's leather apparel.

Leather Forecasting and Styling

2 credits; 1 Lecture and 2 STUDIO hours per week
Students are taught how to develop and communicate style concepts and fashion trends in leather.  Special emphasis is on sources of inspiration, introduction to research, and production techniques for apparel and accessories in the menís and womenís wear markets.

Decorative Leather Techniques

2.5 credits; 1 Lecture and 3 STUDIO hours per week
Studying such ornamentation techniques as trapunto, inlay, welting, pleating, and weaving, students learn how to apply them to leather apparel and accessories design. Basic patternmaking skills used in the construction of handbags, belts, and portfolios are taught.
