SUNY General Education Requirements

If you entered FIT†in Fall 2010 or later, to earn a bachelor's degree, you are required to complete a total of 30 SUNY general education credits in at least†seven of the following ten SUNY-GER subject areas, and demonstrate two competencies.

Areas:
Basic Communication (required)
Mathematics (required)
American History
Other World Civilizations
Foreign Language
Social Sciences
Humanities
The Arts
Natural Sciences
Western Civilization

Competencies:
Critical Thinking (required)
Information Management (required)

*If you entered FIT between fall 1998 and fall 2009, you may need to complete a course in each of the ten areas, but your advisor may be able to tell you about other options. If you entered FIT before fall 1998, the SUNY-GER may not apply.

In addition, FITís local liberal arts requirements include a second English course, a second Social Science course, and HA112 as part of the AAS degree.

Campus Policy on Grades:† A grade of†C or better in an FIT course is required for general education credit.

PLEASE NOTE

All BFA students are required to complete the following credits in order to meet NASAD requirements.† Many of these courses may also fulfill SUNY general education requirements:

  1. 12 credits in History of Art (HA) courses; and
  2. 30 credits in liberal arts (non-HA) courses
