Academic Research Appointments

Please note: appointments to view textiles and accessories are temporarily unavailable due to storage renovation.

Access to the costume collections is by appointment only. Appointments for textiles and accessories are temporarily unavailable due to storage renovation. The Museum at FIT is able to accommodate individual academic research appointments to qualified applicants. All appointments are at the discretion of Museum staff. Not all requests can be accommodated due to condition and/or other internal factors.


Qualified applicants consist of all FIT students, doctoral students from other universities, and professional academics doing research for a not-for-profit venture.

FIT GRADUATE STUDENTS
FIT graduate students may make an appointment to see objects from the costume collections. Appointments for textiles and accessories are temporarily unavailable due to storage renovation. Please be specific as to your request (for example: designer, description, and year).

FIT UNDERGRADUATE STUDENTS
FIT undergraduate students who are currently enrolled may make an appointment to see objects from the costume collections only. Appointments are unavailable to see textiles. You must currently be enrolled and have your instructor sign-off on the request form. Forms are available for download here. Please be specific as to your request (for example: designer, description, and year).

GRADUATE STUDENTS
Graduate and doctoral students from other universities may apply to make an appointment to see objects from the costume collections. See note above regarding textile and accessories collections. You must currently be enrolled in a recognized graduate program. A formal request must include the topic of your project, the objects requested to be viewed, the name of your institution, and the name of your thesis advisor. Please email your request to museuminfo@fitnyc.edu.

Professional academics doing research for a not-for-profit venture may apply to make an appointment to see objects from the costume collection. A formal request must include the topic of your project, the objects requested to be viewed, the name of your institution, and publication details.
