Carrie Thomas has been selected as the new women’s volleyball coach at FIT starting in the Fall of 2012.

Originally from northern Minnesota, Thomas was the Head Women’s Volleyball coach at Mesabi Range College in Virginia, MN for 6 years.  During her tenure at MRC, her teams placed well in a very strong conference as well as Regions.  Thomas' teams always performed well academically and earned Regional and National awards.  She also coached softball at various levels while in Minnesota over the course of 15 years.

During the offseason, Thomas coached various Junior Olympic teams ranging from 18U to 12U, always placing within the top three at all tournaments. Thomas coached two All-Americans and numerous student-athletes that were named to All-Conference and All-Region teams.

Prior to Mesabi Range, Thomas coached at Tower-Soudan High School.   After a challenging first season, she was able to turn the team around to .500 the next season, before ending her next season at 24-3 and knocking off the 6-time defending champions of their region.  After that, her program never looked back and continued their successful play each season under Thomas.

As a coach, Carrie looks for many things in a player.  "To be a star you don’t always have to have the most kills, assists, or be able to jump the highest", says Thomas.  "To be the best you must possess drive, determination and desire.  These are the things that are going to make you successful; not only on the court but in the classroom as well.  Give it your all, and always strive for excellence".
