About the Security Department
The mission of the Security Department is to create an atmosphere on campus that enhances the educational process.
This is accomplished by helping students and employees pursue their goals in a safe and secure environment. We do this by assigning security officers to each academic building and residence hall lobby, vigorously conducting proactive patrols, and ensuring that all visitors to the campus are properly signed in at the Marvin Feldman Center lobby.
The Security Department consists of proprietary security personnel and contract security officers provided by U.S. Security Associates, Inc. The Director and deputy director, with professional law enforcement backgrounds, administer the Security Department. FIT has been approved as a Security Guard Training School, and security personnel are provided with the required New York State eight hours annual in-service, as well as other health and safety training when available. The security staff is unarmed, but equipped with portable two-way radios. The staff works closely and cooperatively with members of the New York City Police Department, 10th Precinct.
