In January 2008, Financo, Inc., a New York investment bank specializing
in the retail, apparel, footwear, and cosmetics industries, created the
Financo Scholarship Fund, which will award scholarships to select
full-time FIT students pursuing bachelor’s degrees. “We designed the
fund to recognize students who demonstrate a unique passion for fashion
and business,” said Gilbert W. Harrison, chairman and CEO of Financo,
Inc., and co-chairman of the board of The Educational Foundation for
the Fashion Industries. “FIT has been a critical resource for fashion
and the design-related industries for more than 60 years. And today,
FIT’s role in helping these industries compete in a global environment
is more crucial than ever.” The fund, which recognized Dr. Joyce F.
Brown’s tenth anniversary as FIT president, was established with an
initial gift of $150,000, with contributions from Financo, friends, and
colleagues. The firm’s goal is to raise a total of $1 million.
