Academic History and Essay form
For the academic history portion, be prepared to list your entire educational background school by school, in chronological order. Applicants are required to indicate all schools, dates of attendance, location, degree(s) awarded, and other information for primary, secondary and all post-secondary schools attended. The essay should explain, in no more than 750 words, your choice of major at FIT and include other biographical information that you feel is relevant to your application. When you receive your confirmation from FIT, go to MyFIT and enter your FIT Username and Password to access this form.

IMPORTANT: FIT Admissions will not process your application until after the Academic History and Essay form has been submitted.

Transcripts

FIT will only accept academic documents that have been officially attested (bearing the stamp and signature of the Registrar or designated officer) and placed in a sealed envelope by the issuing institution or awarding authority.

Documents from all institutions must be provided (with no exceptions), regardless of the type of institution, subjects taken or their relevance to FIT. Such documents should include all subjects taken, all grades/marks earned, and any degrees awarded.

Official AP and/or CLEP scores, if any, are required when available. Official IB (International Baccalaureate) diplomas or certificates, if any, must be provided by the IBO.

Documents not in English must be translated by an approved translator and must be provided in addition to the official original-language documents.
Applicants educated outside the U.S. should see the International Applicants Credentials section on the Registrar's website for country-specific instructions.

TOEFL

The minimum TOEFL score requirement depends on which test format you are using:

1. Internet-based (ibt) test: minimum score must be 80
2. Computer-based test: minimum score must be 213
3. Paper-based test: minimum score must be 550

A current test score is required. The score must be no more than 18 months old from the date of anticipated enrollment.

Applicants who have completed an English composition course at a college in the U.S. are not exempt from taking the TOEFL exam. Students who have completed less than four years of English (not ESL) at a U.S. high school are required to take the TOEFL exam.

Addresses

Applicants who are not U.S. citizens or permanent residents of the U.S. must provide a permanent home mailing address outside the U.S. Please provide a temporary mailing address where you wish us to mail correspondence. You should also indicate whether you are a U.S. citizen or permanent resident.

More Information for International Students

International students requiring F-1 student status to study at FIT will need to submit the International Student Financial Statement (ISFS) after they have been admitted. This is the only document accepted by FIT for issuance of the I-20 (Certificate of Eligibility for Nonimmigrant (F-1) Student Status), which is needed to apply for an F-1 visa. FIT does not accept the following forms included in the SUNY application: FSA-2 (Autobiographical Essay), FSA-3 (English Proficiency Report), and FSA-4 (Foreign Student Financial Statement).
