FIT is a State University of New York college offering a 2 + 2 curriculum, which means that students applying directly from high school begin a two-year associate’s degree (AAS) program; upon completion of that program, students may apply to one of FIT’s two-year bachelor’s degree (BS/BFA) programs.
While our bachelor’s degree programs are always two years long, some of our associate’s degree majors offer an accelerated one-year degree program for students who have already been to college and have earned a sufficient number of transferable liberal arts credits. For those applying to an Art and Design major, a strong portfolio evaluation is also required. See Eligibility for the One-Year AAS Degree.
FIT also offers a master’s (MA/MPS) degree in selected majors.
One of the unique things about FIT is that rather than just applying to the college, you apply to a specific major at the college. You must indicate your choice of major on your application. This is what allows you to start those specialized classes right away. See What are the Majors?
NEW! Associate’s/Bachelor’s Degree Program for Advertising and Marketing Communications Majors: Advertising and Marketing Communications AAS degree students can enter the BS program without having to reapply. Learn more.

When completing your application, select the degree you wish to pursue and then the “Evening/Weekend” option that pops up beneath it.
Please note: International students who are in F1 status or who hold an F1 visa must be in a degree program and be enrolled in 12 or more credits each fall and spring term.
