FIT's degree programs are highly competitive, and students are strongly encouraged to apply early.
This is a two-part application process: filing the SUNY application online is the first part, and completing FIT’s admissions requirements for your application is the second. These requirements usually include your academic documents, the Academic History and Essay form, and, for design applicants, a portfolio. In addition, all applicants whose native language is not English must provide an official TOEFL score; this includes applicants who have been living in the United States. Therefore, it is important to allow time to complete all admissions requirements. The Admissions office will render a decision only after all requested items are on file.
After you apply, it is your responsibility to monitor your
application status and your FIT email account using
MyFIT. You
can use MyFIT
to confirm that all submitted documents have been received. Please
review the timeline below to ensure that all requested materials are
filed with the FIT Admissions office in a timely manner. Decisions
will be made on complete applications only.

upcoming spring and fall semesters are available and may be
submitted to the SUNY Application Services Center. Please do not
submit any applications prior to August 1.
For entry into the spring semester:
OCTOBER 1
If you are interested in being considered for spring admission, it

Academic History and Essay form, portfolio (for applicants to design
majors), and TOEFL (if applicable) are on file in the FIT Admissions
Office.
All final transcripts must be submitted before students register for
the spring semester.
For entry into the fall semester:
OCTOBER – NOVEMBER
Space in all majors is limited, so applicants are encouraged to
submit the SUNY application online.

For Art & Design applicants, portfolio instructions and scheduling
will occur after your online application has been submitted to the
SUNY Application Services Center. Applications submitted in October
and November will be scheduled as early as December. Never submit a
portfolio until we request it.
