FAQ
What is the value of enrolling in courses?
Training and development opportunities are designed to enhance knowledge, skills, and abilities in order to ensure FIT has a high performing workforce able to contribute to meeting the college’s mission.
What is the process for requesting PD Hour?
Staff can request one of two available scheduled hours from 10 am to 11 am or 11am to noon. In order to ensure coverage of college operations, all PD Hour scheduling must be requested by the employee and reviewed by the supervisor via the PD Request form.
What if my supervisor denies my request?
It is expected that all staff have the opportunity to participate in at least one session per month, preferably two. Supervisor review of requests is intended to ensure continuity of operations during common hours. If you have concerns related to your request, please contact HR via the HR Solution Center.
What do I get for attending?
By improving your knowledge, skills, and competencies, you are continuing to contribute to meeting institutional goals and student success as well as creating opportunities for your advancement and professional growth. Certificates are awarded for completion of the requirements of each module. Small tokens such as gift certificates and other swag will also be incorporated into the program.
Will courses always be chosen by CPD?
PD Hour can be used for any training and development program that enhances your professional skills. Suggested options include: LinkedIn Learning curated modules, other LinkedIn Learning courses (all are available), FIT required annual training, required certifications for current position, or future career path professional development identified in conjunction with supervisor to enhance performance.
How do I access LinkedIn Learning?
FIT's Information Technology website has a full tutorial for accessing our online courses: Access LinkedIn Learning
Will the courses always be online?
Training can be completed in any format: online course modules, webinars, in-person sessions, hybrid sessions, conferences, etc.
Can an employee request a specific kind of professional development?
Absolutely! Please work with your supervisor to discuss your professional development goals and to secure support and potential funding, if required. LinkedIn Learning has thousands of options; we suggest you start there. Of course, there are many resources available for specific training. Work with your supervisor to identify the best options.
