This certificate will teach you the fundamental skills and knowledge for designing and building interactions on the internet. You'll develop essential knowledge required to create an accessible front-end for web pages and websites. Learn how to build responsive websites as well as best practices for web page design using HTML5, CSS3, Javascript, and jQuery as well as industry-standard tools such as GitHub and Sublime Text.

This distance learning program is for anyone who wants to expand their creativity into the exciting field of website design. Prior coding experience is not required. You will get hands-on experience with front-end web development languages: HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and jQuery. Learn the essential front-end development skills and workflow to solve real-world problems.

This is a Synchronous and Collaborative Remote Experiential Learning™ (SCREL™) Certificate. Unlike traditional distance and online learning models, SCREL enables real-time interactions between faculty, industry professionals. In addition, our intimate maximum class size of 14 students will enable in-depth discussions and exchange of ideas to maximize your learning experience and results.

Requirements

  • Students enrolled in this program must have access to a personal computer with the following minimum specifications:
  • Window 7 or newer
  • Mac OS 10.10 or newer
  • 1 GB RAM available
  • 2 GHz or faster processor
  • consistently reliable internet with at least 1.5 mbps internet speed
  • latest Chrome browser
  • speakers or headphones to hear instructors during live meetings and a microphone to participate—a webcam is recommended

Enrique Paz is a front-end engineer/designer who bridges the gap between aesthetic sensitivity and programmatic rigor. His unique capabilities enable him to convert original visual design concepts flawlessly into industry-standard HTML code. He is fully conversant on all aspects of web technologies: API’s, web standards, content management systems, content strategy, search engine optimization, browser compatibility, and mobile optimization.

Michael is a front-end engineer specialized in developing global, accessible and performant websites for large corporations using open source content management systems. As an early adopter of Virtual Reality, Michael began experimenting with WebVR in early 2016 creating accessible immersive experiences for the open web. His commitment to education and the community drove him to create the Latino Web Developers Meetup and teach online courses on platforms such as Platzi and Udemy. Michael is co-founder and CTO of FluentXR, a company that creates immersive language learning web applications for ELS students. Currently, Michael works as a Manager of Digital Development at AECOM Technology Corporation.

Synchronous and Collaborative Remote Experiential Learning

FIT’s SCREL programs were developed by award-winning faculty members from FIT’s Creative Technology & Design (CT&D) subject area and Center for Continuing and Professional Studies (CCPS). It provides a hands-on learning experience that simulates the workflow of online collaboration and global teamwork, which is becoming a standard in the contemporary creative industry.

Synchronous: Real-time remote lectures, demonstrations, and discussions for instant feedback and dynamic exchange of ideas.

Collaborative: Adaptation of industry-standard tools that enable real-time online collaboration and teamwork.

Experiential: Hands-on experiential and project-based learning in which students actively explore real-world problems and challenges and acquire a deeper understanding of the subject.

Center for Continuing and Professional Studies (CCPS)

FIT's CCPS offers credit and noncredit certificates and courses in fashion, business, design, technology, and marketing, to help you enter into or advance your career in the fashion and related industries.
