Documentation Indicating Need
FIT does not determine eligibility status, but requires an official third-party to assess and declare financial need. This may be a letter on school letterhead indicating your participation in a free-lunch program (most common), financial assistance program, tuition supplementation, or other government or organizational support program.
*Please note that tax forms cannot be accepted as proof of financial need. Students who submit tax forms cannot be considered for a scholarship or a precollege payment plan, please refer to the acceptable documents above.
When families apply to nonpublic schools and want consideration for financial aid, many use the National Association of Independent Schools system which is called School and Student Services. Parents submit a number of financial documents and the NAIS makes a recommendation to schools of financial aid eligibility (called the Parents Financial Statement). The NAIS recommendation/finding may be submitted as a third-party recommendation.
