Leather Apparel
The Competency-Based Certificate program in Leather Apparel was developed to meet the demands of the leather apparel industry, graduates of FIT's Fashion Design, Accessories Design, and Menswear programs, currently enrolled students, and individuals seeking additional knowledge in the area of leather apparel design and construction.
The purpose of the program is to develop skills to a professional level in leather apparel design for menswear or womenswear. Students prepare for positions in the areas of buying, designing, merchandising, and production. The program offers students the opportunity to earn a certificate in two areas of concentration: Menswear or Women's Wear.
Upon successful completion of the program students will receive a Certificate of Competency in Leather Apparel Design in Menswear or Women's Wear. Students will be able to:
- Discuss leather science, sourcing, history, and trends;
- Employ the use of decorative techniques;
- Cut garments and demonstrate various sewing techniques;
- Draw, design, and render leather apparel and accessories; and
- Design, drape, create patterns and spec leather garments and accessories.
