ADA Title II Rule Updates
Updates to Title II of the Americans with Disabilities Act Title II were published in 2024. The updates apply to all public colleges and universities with deadlines dependent on population size. FIT's deadline for compliance is April 2026.
ADA Title II Details
ADA Title II is designed to ensure that state and local government services, including public higher education institutions, are accessible to people with disabilities. This means all digital content must be designed so that everyone can access them regardless of ability, disability, or use of assistive technology.
The new rules require a minimum compliance of WCAG 2.1 AA.

Who is affected?
Every member of the FIT community has a role to play in the implementation of the ADA updates.
Each unit must ensure that digital materials meet the minimum accessibility requirements as required by ADA Title II. This includes making sure that websites, apps, online content, digital documents, presentations, and online learning materials are accessible.
A campuswide committee has been formed to help steer FIT's commitment to accessibility and compliance with the new rule. You will be receiving communication through various channels describing your obligations and options for training and support.
