Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion in the Library

The FIT Library embraces FIT’s commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion in all of its activities. We aim to represent and reflect FIT’s diverse student body. To expand our diversity, equity, and inclusion goals, we strive to continue to grow, strengthen and build in the following areas:

  • FIT Community Connections & Collaborations - sharing, growing and expanding the Library’s collections, spaces, and resources with our direct community and beyond in collaboration with groups across campus, including the Office of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion and FITAble.
  • Student Engagement, Outreach, and Support - providing and promoting overall student interaction, collaboration, and participation, including in Library events related to diversity, equity, and inclusion and creating a safe and supportive place for students.
  • Library Facilities – developing more inclusive, accessible, and cooperative spaces, assessing and addressing community needs and feedback, and making on-going improvements and adjustments in a timely manner.
  • Library Resources - on-going analysis, enrichment, and expansion of inclusive titles and content available to the FIT community and beyond.
  • Library Technology - providing access to a wide range of technologies for use in the library and for students to check out, including assistive technologies, software and equipment required for coursework, light therapy lamps, and more to ensure that students have equitable access to the technology they need. We are committed to ongoing assessment of assistive technology and consider recommendations for new or improved equipment and software.
  • Team Expertise - offering continued availability to updated professional and sensitivity training of the library team and the FIT community, including a commitment to 100% completion of Safe Zone training for all members of the Library team and ongoing equity and inclusion training.
  • Assessment, Accountability, & Improvement - continuing commitment to outreach, assessment, and gathering feedback from the FIT community to ensure that we evolve to meet the changing needs of our community.
