This course provides an insider’s view of art fairs. Participants will learn about the various art fairs and their points of focus and will consider how the curatorial concept is applied in the context of an art fair. To facilitate the viewing experience, they will also be provided with a roadmap to quickly identify their interests and techniques to properly negotiate.

Meet Your Instructor
Florence Lynch
Adjunct Professor, School of Graduate Studies, Fashion Institute of Technology
Florence Lynch is a New York–based art dealer. She co-owned LYNCH THAM, a contemporary art gallery formerly on the Lower East Side, established in 2013. Lynch is also the founder of Florence Lynch Gallery, a contemporary art gallery of international standing previously located in New York’s Chelsea gallery district. Lynch has over 20 years of art world experience, and has worked as an independent curator, lecturer, and critic.
Lynch is a visiting critic, panelist, and lecturer at universities in the U.S. and abroad. She is an adjunct professor in the School of Graduate Studies at the Fashion Institute of Technology where she teaches about the art market and a lecturer at Teachers College Columbia University where she teaches in the arts administration master’s program. Lynch has interviewed and written on the works of Quentin Tarantino, David Lynch, Jenny Holzer, Louise Bourgeois, David Hammons, Nan Goldin, and Robert Longo, among others.
She sits on the advisory board of A.I.R. and the advisory council of the Alumni Association of the New York Studio School, and is a member of Arttable and The Leadership Organization for Professional Women in the Visual Arts. Lynch has done philanthropic work in support of BAM Brooklyn Academy of Music, Harlem School of the Arts, Art in General, The Bronx Museum of Arts, and The Studio Museum in Harlem, among other institutions. She is also a 2019 organizing committee member for the 25th Anniversary Gala of the Andy Warhol Museum, Pittsburgh.
