School of Graduate Studies

The School of Graduate Studies (SGS), located mainly on the Goodman Center sixth floor, is renovating classrooms, seminar rooms, and faculty office space to enhance the teaching and learning experience. Sustainability measures include use of renewable materials in furniture and finishes, and energy-efficient LED lighting. 

Renovated facilities include:

• General Purpose Classrooms – two existing classrooms will be updated with new technology and flexible furniture
• Conservation Lab and Workroom—an upgrade of the conservation laboratory and student workroom for the Fashion and Textiles Studies program. Both spaces will be outfitted with state-of-the-art equipment to support ongoing projects and research
• Seminar Room—space for more intensive course meetings and breakout sessions  
• Seminar/Huddle Room—a smaller, flexible space with new technology, where students and faculty can meet for projects, experimentation, and innovation
• Graduate Student Commons—an informal community gathering and collaboration space, with workstations, lockers, technology resources, and a pantry
• Exhibition Space—the main corridor will be a dedicated gallery space for graduate student and faculty work, with monitors and other display options
• Dedicated storage for the SGS Study Collection—for storage of objects and materials including mannequins, microscopes, and other materials
• Restrooms—four new restrooms will serve the SGS and the library’s AMS areas of the sixth floor

During construction, classrooms and offices have been relocated around the college. Completion is expected in fall 2016.
