Pomerantz Center Renovations

An expansion of the Fred P. Pomerantz Art and Design Center lobby is under way, creating an elegant and functional addition to the campus. The renovation is one of 60 projects to emerge from FIT's updated campus master plan, and is expected to be completed in spring 2018.

The new lobby will extend to the 27th Street subway station, providing much-needed additional space for exhibitions and displays. The façade, entirely sheathed in glass, will offer a light-filled interior visible to passersby, allowing them to enjoy the work on view.

This project will more than double the interior exhibition space to almost 4,000 square feet. A smaller, enclosed gallery will be created out of former offices adjacent to the lobby. A catering kitchen will be installed to service events in the lobby, the amphitheatre, and the Great Hall.

During construction, the 27th Street entrance is closed, and the temporary entrance is on Seventh Avenue. The new lobby will have entrances on both Seventh Avenue and 27th Street.
