Biography
Christina Lyons has overseen the Exhibition and Experience Design program since 2016. She has successfully managed and led sponsored project partnerships with notable organizations, including multiple projects with the Wildlife Conservation Society (WCS), Gotham Park, the Museum of the Moving Image (MoMI), the 9/11 Memorial & Museum, the American Museum of Natural History (AMNH), Liberty Science Center, and others.
Lyons was previously the director of the Graphic Design Department at Skolnick Architecture + Design Partnership. and was a senior designer at Poulin + Morris. She has worked on numerous exhibition and experience design projects such as the Muzeiko: Children’s Museum in Sofia, Bulgaria; New York Historical Society; NY Hall of Science; Sony Wonder Technology Lab; the Aileron Center for Entrepreneurial Education; the National Track and Field Hall of Fame; AIGA Gallery; Center for Architecture; and many other branding, experiential marketing, and exhibition experiences.
From 2017–2021, Lyons served on the board of directors of the Society for Experiential Graphic Design (SEGD). Now a member, she is a former chair of the SEGD Academic Task Force and a member of the Emerging Experiential Design Professionals group. Recent publication contributions include Theory and Practice of Motion Design: Critical Perspectives and Professional Practice and the Society for Experiential Graphic Design. Recent speaking engagements include the Mid-Atlantic Association of Museums, Society for Experiential Graphic Design Academic Summit, X-LAB, and National Association for Interpretation. In 2017, Lyons served as a juror for the SEGD Global Design Awards and in 2018 she chaired the Global Design Award committee. In 2022, she was awarded SEGD's Distinguished Member Award. In 2021, Lyons was the recipient of the FIT Faculty Excellence Award.
Lyons holds a master's degree in Communication Design from Pratt Institute and a bachelor of arts degree from the University of Vermont. She has been teaching at FIT since 2010.
